What You’ll See

  • A color-coded map shows transaction volume in the local market using volume index tiles.
  • A summary panel displays:
    • Place Growth – your store’s visits growth
    • Benchmark Growth – market-level growth in the selected category
    • Performance Gap – the difference, if directly comparable

Understanding the Volume Index

Spend data is delivered as an index rather than raw sales numbers. The volume index shows average daily transaction density in nearby areas. Hovering over a tile reveals:

  • The category (e.g., “Total Apparel”)
  • The tile’s volume index value

Bar Charts and Trends

  • Below the map, you'll find bar charts comparing your store visits and market transaction volumes across time.
  • Use this to understand whether local demand is increasing and how your store tracks against it.

Use Cases

  • Footprint Evaluation: Compare store growth to nearby spend trends to decide on lease renewals or closures.
  • Performance Diagnostics: Determine whether store-level issues are internal or due to broader market shifts.
  • Strategic Reporting: Use spend vs. visits to contextualize performance for stakeholders.

Tips and Considerations

💡 Tip: Spend data is most insightful when aligned with internal KPIs. Export results and overlay your sales numbers for a complete picture.

⚠️ Note: Data availability depends on Mastercard’s criteria for minimum volume and competitive presence in an area.

📉 Limitation: Data is delivered with a ~2-week delay, ideal for strategic analysis, not real-time decisions.
